Calculator has different modes

General modes

The calculator is able to operate in a variety of different modes:

• COMP, which is used to do general calculations.
• STAT is a statistical program that can be used for statistical calculations
• TABLE is a tool utilized to generate tables of numbers.

COMP is short for "computation and STAT stands for the abbreviation for'statistics'..

The Comp mode can be selected using the key sequence (COMP).

Mathematics modes

There are two possible ways to input maths applied to and displayed by the calculator:

• Math mode, in which fractions are entered and shown in their proper mathematical form like or some odd numbers can be displayed in surds (such as ) or multiples of (such as ).Math mode is set by making use of the keyboard sequence (SETUP) (MthIO).
• Linear mode, in which fractions such as are entered and displayed using a linear notation - for example, 2 3 - and all irrational numbers (such as and ) are displayed as decimal approximations.Linear mode is selected by using the key sequence (SETUP) (LineIO).

Simply put, an irrational number is one which cannot be expressed as a straightforward fraction.

You will know you are in Math mode when the word Math appears near the right hand side of the top of the calculator display. If it's not that means you're in Linear mode.

In Math mode you can make the answer to display in decimal form either toggle between the mathematical and decimal outputs using .

Fraction display modes

You can configure the calculator so that answers which are heavy on top (such as ) are presented in mixed number format (such such ).

• To configure the calculator to display as mixed numbers, you must use this key sequence (SETUP) (ab/c).
• To make the calculator to display top-heavy fractions, follow the key sequence (SETUP) (d/c).

Decimal display modes

The calculator can be programmed to display decimal numbers in various different ways:

• Normal 1 (Norm 1) mode makes use of scientific notation for any number less than 0.01 but higher than -0.01 The mode displays the answers in whatever decimal locations they can be, subject to the maximum that can fit on the screen. The mode is controlled by (SETUP) (Norm) .

If you are using your calculator is set in this mode the indicator on your display is shown.
• Fixed decimal-place setting (Fix) displays the decimal values to an appropriate the number of decimal decimal positions (unless you are using scientific notation required to match the result to the display). This mode can be set using (SETUP) (Fix) followed by the number of decimal places needed, for instance .
